Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 1908

  • Pioneer Cemetery - Section 22, South Westnedge, Kalamazoo - site obliterated since 1884. Last burial 1863, bodies were moved.  Land was donated in 1883 by Cyren and Mary Ann Burdick. 
According to Willis Dunbar in "Kalamazoo and How it Grew "(re: Pioneer Cemetery):  "Earlier there had been a burying ground (Pioneer Cemetery) at the corner of present South Westnedge and Park Place.  The first person to die in the village, Joseph Woods, was buried there in 1833.  The land had been purchased by Cyren Burdick and was presented by him to the township.  Later it became part of the village.  About 1862, bodies were removed from this cemetery and placed in Mountain Home and Riverside.  However, some of the bodies buried in the old Westnedge (Pioneer) were never removed.  It was later made into a public park."

WOLCOTT CEMETERY TOMBSTONE PHOTOGRAPHS

Wolcott cemetery is located in Pavilion Township, Section 24, SE corner, 100 yards south of R Avenue, just north of 36th St. on private property.  It was established in 1843 and is said to have two graves, but there is no record of the names.  However, a 1847 a plat map shows Erastus Wolcott owned land in Section 24.
